Simple Steps, Real Results… and Start to Invest
Earlier this year, I celebrated a special milestone: the graduation of my very first cohort of Start To Invest group coaching program
It was a cosy and diverse group - with participants from Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Australia, and even Austria. Each person brought a different background, but they all shared one common goal: to stop putting off investing and finally take action.
For years, I coached individuals one-on-one, where we had the space to dive deep into their personal finances, money beliefs, and long-term dreams. These were often intimate, vulnerable conversations - because money isn’t just about numbers; it’s tied to our values, fears, and past experiences. That’s why I wasn’t sure how comfortable people would be opening up in a group setting. After all, money is a deeply personal topic - and for some, still a taboo one.
But this year, I took the leap - and what happened far exceeded my expectations.
When I welcomed the pioneer batch into the program, their “before stories” were more alike than they had realised:
“I’m not a numbers person.”
“I don’t have any finance knowledge.”
“I’m not sure I have what it takes to invest.”
Despite their doubts - and despite well-meaning advice from friends or family to “just read a book or watch YouTube to learn about investing” - they committed.
And in just a few months, they transformed.
One student shared:
“Dinah cuts through the noise and accelerated my learning with focused clarity and real-life relevance. Her course led to so many lightbulb moments - it’s insightful, practical, and scalable. I now feel more informed, empowered, and motivated to continue learning.”
What I’ve always believed was confirmed again during the group coaching: everyone’s financial journey is unique. Our values, goals, purpose for money, and risk profiles differ - and we must first start with understanding ourselves. That means getting clear on our financial situation, our money beliefs and goals.
Once this foundation was laid, the group moved on to learning core investing topics in a structured, approachable way. They explored key financial concepts like compounding, gained an understanding of different asset classes, and learned how to manage portfolio risk. We also covered how to analyse stocks and discussed the often-overlooked but crucial element of investor psychology.
But this wasn’t just theory - they took action. They built habits, asked questions, and supported one another’s growth. In this few short months, most of the students were able to put in their first self-directed trade!
Most importantly, they walked away with a more empowered money mindset and the confidence to continue their investing journey.
Another reflection:
“Dinah’s calm and knowledgeable approach created a safe space. Her group sessions were supportive and full of shared wisdom. I came for financial literacy and left with clarity, community, and confidence.”
At our celebration call, many shared how valuable it was to learn together - to benefit from one another’s questions, perspectives, and experiences. Even during the money mindset session, it was eye-opening to discover how differently we all think about money.
So after years of procrastinating, they now had clear strategies - and the courage - to finally start investing.
To my first batch of Start To Invest students - congratulations! Your growth, courage, and commitment to learn have been truly inspiring.
