What we learnt about money mindset, success and dreaming bigger from a chinese drama.
Last week, I hosted my Wealth Secrets Masterclass.
And I have to say, I did not expect the conversation to resonate with so many people.
Some came because they loved Pursuit of Jade. Some came because they were curious how a drama could possibly hold wealth lessons. And some had never even watched the show before.
But what surprised me most was this:
By the end of the session, the conversation was not really about the drama anymore.
It became a conversation about success. About money. About the rules we inherit. About the version of life we quietly allow ourselves to want.
And one of the moments that stayed with me most was the discussion around Changyu.
She Did Not Lack Ambition. She Lacked a Bigger World.
At the beginning of the show, Changyu lived in a very small world.
When Xie Zheng asked her what she wanted, he encouraged her to think big.
Her answer? Pigs.
First 20 to 30 pigs. Then maybe 100. Then 200.
That was her version of abundance. Not because she lacked ambition. But because that was the world she knew.
She could only dream within the boundaries of what felt familiar.
And honestly, isn’t that what many of us do with money too?
We tell ourselves: “I just want to be comfortable.” “I don’t need too much.” “I’m not the kind of person who invests.” “I’m already too late.” “I should just be grateful for what I have.”
Some of these statements sound humble. Some sound practical. Some even sound responsible.
But underneath them, there may be a quieter question:
Are we truly choosing this version of success? Or have we simply not allowed ourselves to imagine more?
What Changed Was Not Her Heart
By the end of Pursuit of Jade, Changyu had become a high-ranking female general, living with far more status, resources and choices.
But here is the important part.
She did not become a different person. She was still loving. Still loyal. Still righteous. Still deeply principled.
What changed was not her heart...instead it was her capacity.
Her world expanded. Her confidence expanded. Her sense of what was possible expanded.
And that is the part I wanted participants to sit with.
Because many people are afraid that wanting more money will change them.
They worry that if they become more ambitious, more successful, or more financially confident, they will somehow lose themselves.
But money does not automatically make you less kind, less grounded or less generous.
Money often reveals what already matters to you.
If family matters to you, money gives you more ways to support them. If freedom matters to you, money gives you more choices. If contribution matters to you, money gives you more capacity to give. If peace matters to you, money gives you more stability.
So What Is Success, Really?
This is the question I asked during the masterclass.
Not what society says success should be. Not what your parents expected. Not what your culture told you was acceptable. Not what your old money stories allowed you to dream of.
But your version.
For some people, success is career progression. For others, it is a healthy body, time with their children, close friendships, or the freedom to travel.
For many people, success is not about luxury at all. It is about having choices.
The choice to leave a job that no longer fits. The choice to take care of your health. The choice to support your loved ones. The choice to work because you want to, not because you have no other option.
That, to me, is one of the deepest forms of wealth.
But Intention Alone Is Not Enough
You can have the best intentions. You can want freedom, security and choices.
You can tell yourself that one day, you will invest, plan properly, or finally take your finances seriously.
But at some point, your money needs a plan.
Saving alone may not be enough. Hoping is not a strategy. And avoiding your finances will not create the future you say you want.
This is where many people get stuck.
Not that they are incapable. But because they have never been guided in a way that feels clear, safe and aligned with their own life.
They may have watched investment videos, read articles, even opened a trading account or bought a few investments. But deep down, they still do not feel confident.
They are not sure if they are doing the right thing. They are not sure how much risk they should take. They are not sure what to buy, how to start, or how to build a portfolio that actually fits their life.
And that uncertainty keeps them standing at the same place.
This Is Why I Created Start To Invest
One of the biggest lessons from Pursuit of Jade is that transformation does not happen all at once.
Changyu did not become powerful in one scene.
She grew through each decision, each challenge, each moment where she chose courage over familiarity.
Your financial journey works the same way.
You do not become a confident investor overnight. You build confidence by taking one clear step at a time.
My enrolment is now open for Start To Invest: August Cohort.
This group coaching programme is for new and aspiring investors, as well as those who already have some investments but still do not feel confident about what to do next.
We start with YOU: Your financial situation. Your risk profile. Your money mindset. Your goals. Your season of life.
Then we build from there.
Because investing is not about copying someone else’s strategy.
It is about learning how to make informed decisions that are aligned with your own life.
A Question to Leave You With
What version of success are you ready to allow yourself to want?
And what are you willing to do differently to move towards it?
If you are ready for your personal Pursuit of Jade journey, I would love to walk alongside you inside Start To Invest: August Cohort.
You do not need to make one big dramatic move. You simply need to begin.
