Sometimes the biggest block to abundance isn’t money.

We all say we want abundance.
But what happens when it actually shows up?

Have you ever paused and asked yourself:

What does abundance really mean to me?

Over the last few weeks inside my group coaching program, we explored this exact question. And what surfaced surprised many of us.

Most people say they want more.

But not everyone is truly comfortable receiving it.

When Abundance Feels… Uncomfortable

One lady shared that she felt annoyed when her partner bought her a gift - simply because it wasn’t a “special occasion.” It wasn’t Christmas, her birthday, or Valentine’s Day.

In her mind, gifts should only be tied to certain events. Anything outside of that felt unnecessary and excessive.

Another participant shared that when her husband surprised her with an expensive gift, her first reaction wasn’t joy. It was dread.

She actually wanted him to return the gift for a refund. Not because they couldn’t afford it but because she didn’t feel worthy of receiving something that generous.

That really struck me.

If we feel burdened when we receive something good…
If generosity makes us uncomfortable…
If abundance creates anxiety instead of gratitude…

Then it’s not about the money.

It’s a mindset block at play.

The Subconscious Resistance to Abundance

Many of us grew up with subtle messages around money:

·       “Don’t waste money.”

·       “We are not that kind of family.”

·       “Better save it for a rainy day.”

·       “Don’t show off.”

These messages aren’t necessarily wrong. In fact, they often came from love and protection.

But over time, they quietly shape how much we allow ourselves to have, enjoy, and receive.

We say we want abundance.
But subconsciously, we might not feel safe with it.

That’s the inner work.

Abundance is not just about how much you earn or invest. It’s also about how much you allow yourself to receive - without guilt, without shrinking, without explaining yourself.

If Receiving Feels Like a Burden…

If you feel uneasy when someone treats you.
If you downplay your achievements.
If you feel guilty earning more than others.

That discomfort is worth exploring

Because abundance is not only about giving.

It’s about being able to receive with grace.

What To Do Instead

If you want to step into abundance in a grounded and healthy way, start small.

1️⃣ Notice the small abundances in your daily life

A peaceful morning. A healthy body. A stable income. A safe home. A text from a friend. A beautiful sunrise/sunset. A new bloom on your plant.

Abundance is already present – if you train your mind to see it.

2️⃣ Practise receiving

When someone compliments you, simply say “thank you.”
When someone buys you a gift, receive it fully.
When opportunities come your way, allow yourself to step into them.

Receiving is a skill - and  you’ll get better with practice.

3️⃣ Stop saving the “good things” for special days

Don’t keep your nice clothes, handbags, or watches waiting for a perfect occasion.
Use that luxury hand cream. Light the beautiful candle.

When we constantly postpone enjoyment, we reinforce the belief that we must earn the right to enjoy what we already have.

Using the good things now sends a quiet message to yourself:
I am allowed to enjoy my life today.

4️⃣ Practise giving - from abundance, not obligation

It doesn’t have to be big. Buy coffee for a friend. Share your knowledge generously. Be thoughtful with your time.

Giving reinforces the belief that there is enough.

5️⃣ Visualise your abundant self

Not the flashy version you see on social media.
The grounded one.

The version of you who feels secure and steady.

How does that person think about money?
How do they invest?
How do they speak about their goals?
How do they carry themselves?

Abundance, in my experience, is calm and secure, not loud.

A Gentle Truth

I often share this with my clients:

“Where you are financially today is where your money mindset allows you to be.”
~ Dinah Poehlmann

This isn’t meant to create guilt. It’s meant to create awareness.

When your mindset expands, your capacity expands.
And when your capacity expands, your financial life changes.

Ask yourself a deeper question: Am I truly open to abundance?

If you know you want more - more ease, more generosity, more growth - it starts with allowing yourself to receive it.

Let’s step into abundance consciously today.
